Dear Friends,
It is always with great interest that I receive from time to time AAPSO's important statements and communications such as recently AAPSO's tribute to Nelson Mandela which recalls the long time support given to ANC by AAPSO, followed by a strong statement on December 10th calling for actions to expand respect o for people 's self- determination and human rights, the world over and, more recently still, the annoucement of AAPSO initiative and commitment to promote the establisment of a MEDIA UNION of AFRICA, ASIA and LATINE AMERICA.
"A light has extinguished and there is darkness" This is how Prime Minister of India Javaharlal Nehru characterized the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi in 1948 at the hand of a rightwing Hindu extremist. Nelson Mandela was not a Mahatma Gandhi. But some try to project him as another Gandhi.
On 10th of December 2013, 65 years have passed since the adoption of Human Rights Declaration by the United Nations on 10th December 1948. Afro-Asian People's Solidarity Organization was set up in 1958 when most of the countries in the African continent were under colonial rule. Even in Asia and Latin America all the countries were not free. The priority of AAPSO was assisting the liberation movements to achieve freedom from colonialism which is the main pillar of human rights. True freedom is human rights for everybody.
After hectic negotiations for several days, Iran and the six nations-UK; France; U.S. Russia China and Germany- were able to sign an historic agreement paving the way for lifting sanctions against Iran.
